Cost of Diapers

Cost of Diapers

Are you trying to determine the cost of diapers? Deciding whether or not to continue buying diapers is never an easy decision. Maybe you are just comparing brands to see which is the most cost effective. Or, possibly you are considering purchasing cloth diapers for environmental reasons. No matter your situation, I think you will find the following true story one worth consideration.

Story on the Cost of Diapers

There once lived a mother of four, scouring for a diaper the family could afford. After considering finances, she decided it best to opt for the reusable cloth diaper. With keen determination, she daily overcame the most repugnant part of the job—cleaning the diaper. First, waste is dumped in the toilet, and with diaper still in hand, the toilet is flushed. Then, once the bowl refills, dunking the cloth up and down in the water is probably the best method to try to remove any excess waste. Next, the toilet is flushed again. Finally, the diaper is lowered for a second round of dunking and then squeezed to remove excess water. The diaper is then put in the wash (or separated for a load of diapers), cleaned, and dried to be reused again.

Cost of Diapers:  Time, Elbow Grease, or Money

I don’t know about you, but I cringe to think of going through this process. Not because it is time consuming (which it is), but because you have to deal with human waste during the entire process. (Maybe it would be easier with a gas mask). Whatever the set backs may be, you can be assured that this is the most cost effective method of diapering your children. Yet, most of us are not willing to go to such lengths for the good of the environment, the health of our children, nor the finances of our family. Instead, many of us will choose the easier road of purchasing some brand of diaper for use by our children. Still, you can rest assured that the story above—by far—offers the lowest cost of diapers that you have probably ever seen!
